Attendance at King Charles III and Queen Camilla's State Visit to Italy
An honour to attend today’s State Ceremony in Rome marking the visit of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Italy.
Held in the historic Chamber of Deputies at Montecitorio, this event symbolised the deep-rooted and evolving relationship between Italy and the United Kingdom - a relationship built on cultural affinity, economic partnership, and shared values.
A particularly human moment came when His Majesty addressed part of the chamber in Italian, warmly received by all, before joking that he’d ‘butchered it’ (translated!) and hoped to be invited back. That mix of humility and humour was a subtle but powerful act of diplomacy.
I’m especially grateful to His Majesty’s Ambassador to Italy, Lord Llewellyn, for the kind invitation.
As someone engaged in international collaboration, it’s clear that the future of UK–Italy relations will depend not only on diplomacy, but also on business, innovation, education and people-to-people ties.
This ceremony was more than symbolic - it was a signal that the next chapter of cooperation is already being written.
